UK eGates are open to British citizens and to nationals of the EU and a set list of countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan and Singapore, aged 8 or over with a biometric passport. Gulf passports are not on that list, so unless you are a Registered Traveller member, expect a staffed desk. If your aircraft parks at Terminal 5's B or C satellite, you first ride the underground Transit to the main building.
Collect your bags and walk through customs into the arrivals hall. Your chauffeur waits 30 minutes from the flight's actual arrival time, so that clock is already running while you queue at the border and wait at the carousel. Switch your phone on as soon as you land: a passenger who cannot be reached is treated as a no-show.
Heathrow prohibits passenger pick-ups from its terminal forecourts, so do not wait at the kerb outside arrivals. Your confirmation voucher gives your chauffeur's name, the vehicle and the meeting point. Go to the meeting point on the voucher.
Terminals 2 and 3 are reached from junction 4 of the M4 or junction 15 of the M25; Terminals 4 and 5 from junction 14 of the M25. Heathrow itself advises allowing at least an hour by car to central London.
Airlines move terminals from time to time, so check your booking rather than relying on this list. Landing at Gatwick instead? Its North and South Terminals are linked by a free landside shuttle, but not once you are past security.

Heathrow lies 14 miles west of central London and handled about 84.5 million passengers in 2025, its busiest year on record. Trains between its terminals are free, and the Heathrow Express reaches Paddington in about 15 minutes from Terminals 2 and 3. Terminal 4 sits south of the southern runway and Terminal 5 at the western end of the site, each reached from junction 14 of the M25.

Gatwick is in Crawley, West Sussex, about 30 miles south of central London, on a motorway spur from junction 9A of the M23. It has two terminals, North and South, linked by a free 24-hour landside shuttle of two to three minutes; they are not connected once you are past security. The railway station sits beside the South Terminal, with non-stop Gatwick Express trains to Victoria and Thameslink services to London Bridge and St Pancras.
