Dubai International Airport (DXB) Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC)

At a glance

What you get with a Dubai airport transfer

Dubai International (DXB) sits a few minutes from Deira and the creek, with Downtown, the Marina and Abu Dhabi strung out to the south-west along the E11, Sheikh Zayed Road. Universal Airport Transfer books the car before you fly, with a named chauffeur and your flight tracked, and sends a full quote for the terminal on your ticket and the address you are going to, usually within two hours. Al Maktoum International (DWC), the city’s second airport, is quoted the same way.

  • Your chauffeur waits 30 minutes from your flight’s actual arrival time.
  • A full quote before you pay, usually within two hours, reflecting distance, vehicle class, add-ons and any late-night, public holiday or short-notice charges.
  • Pay online by secure payment link or bank transfer, and your booking is confirmed once paid. Salik tolls on your route are either included in the quote or shown in it as an additional charge, never added after booking; waiting beyond the included time may carry a charge.
  • Changes and cancellations up to 48 hours before your flight under the standard policy, less any costs already incurred; a few airports and services differ.
  • Economy, Business or First Class, in a sedan, SUV or van, with a bus for larger groups.
  • At DXB the terminal is on your ticket: as of September 2026, Emirates uses Terminal 3, flydubai Terminal 2 or 3, and most other airlines Terminal 1.

Taxi or booked ahead

When booking ahead makes sense, and when a taxi will do

Taxis wait at ranks in every DXB terminal around the clock, and for plenty of arrivals that is the right answer. This is our honest view of when a car booked ahead earns its place, and when it does not.

Arriving at Dubai International: a taxi from the rank or a transfer booked ahead
Your arrivalWhat suits itWhy
One or two of you, light bags, daytimeA taxi from the rankThe rank is signposted from arrivals, the fare is metered and there is nothing to arrange. From Terminals 1 and 3 the Red Line Metro is another option if you are carrying little.
Landing late at nightBooked aheadThe ranks stay open through the night too. With a booked car, your chauffeur is assigned and your flight tracked before you land, and the Metro does not run in the small hours.
Children who need a car seatBooked aheadA child seat has to be requested when you book, with the children’s ages, and it is fitted before you arrive.
Five to seven people with luggageBooked aheadA van takes about 5 to 7 passengers and 6 to 8 bags, in any class, so the whole party leaves together in one vehicle.
Going straight on to Abu DhabiBooked aheadThe long run down the E11 is quoted as one journey and agreed before you travel.
A connection on separate ticketsBooked ahead if the terminal or airport changesYou clear passport control, collect your bags and check in again. If the onward flight leaves from the same terminal you need no car; if it leaves from another terminal or from DWC, the booking desk needs your onward departure so that the connection window is protected.
A company paying, or a price you want settled firstBooked aheadCorporate account billing and recurring bookings cover staff and visiting clients. For anyone, the quote is accepted and paid before you travel, and the price does not move after that.

No prices here, ours or anyone else’s. A metered fare depends on the ride, and every transfer we arrange is quoted for its own journey.

Price

What your quote depends on

Every journey is quoted on its own rather than sold from a price list, so the figure you receive is for your booking. These are the things that move it. Nothing is charged until you accept the quote. Tolls, where they apply, are either included in it or shown in it as an additional charge, and heavy traffic does not change the quoted price.

Which terminal, and which airport The pickup point comes from the airport code and terminal on your ticket. Terminal 2 is a separate pickup on the far side of the airfield, and DWC is a different airport in Jebel Ali, so the wrong code means the wrong kerb.
How far down the coast Addresses run from Deira, minutes from the terminals, to Jebel Ali, 40 km or more away, and the quote is worked out for yours. Salik toll gates sit on several routes south, including the Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum bridges and Sheikh Zayed Road.
The hour and the date A late-night landing, a UAE public holiday or a booking made at short notice can each add a charge, named in the quote before you pay. The holidays include the two Eids, whose dates follow the moon sighting, and National Day on 2 and 3 December.
Your party and its luggage The vehicle is chosen on passengers and bags, in whichever class you book: a sedan takes about 1 to 3 passengers with 2 to 3 bags, and a van about 5 to 7 passengers with 6 to 8. Declare golf bags, pushchairs and other bulky items when you book.

When you land

Landing at Dubai International

Terminals 1 and 3 stand together and Terminal 2 is across the airfield, so the first thing that matters is the terminal on your ticket. From there, this is the order things happen in.

  1. 01

    Before you land

Send the flight number and the terminal your ticket shows. Because flydubai uses both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, go by the ticket rather than the airline. The flight is tracked, and a delayed arrival moves the pickup with it.

  2. 02

    Passport control

UAE and GCC nationals, UAE residents and visa-on-arrival visitors with biometric passports can use the Smart Gates, and first-time users are registered at passport control as they arrive. Families with children, anyone under 1.2 metres tall and travellers with a large pushchair cannot use the gates and queue at the staffed counters. Check before you fly whether your passport gets a visa on arrival.

  3. 03

    Baggage

Time at the belt counts towards the 30-minute wait, so if a bag goes missing or a queue will hold you up, message the booking desk. It answers 24 hours a day, by phone or WhatsApp.

  4. 04

    Meeting your chauffeur

Your chauffeur is named before pickup, and the booking desk tells you where at your terminal to meet. Meet and greet is available as an extra, at the gate where the airport allows it.

  5. 05

    Heading into the city

Garhoud and Deira are the first districts outside the airport. Downtown, Business Bay and the Marina lie south-west along Sheikh Zayed Road, the E11, which carries on past Jebel Ali towards Abu Dhabi. The price was settled when you paid, so a slow evening on the road does not change it.

The three DXB terminals

Terminal 1 Used by most international airlines other than Emirates and flydubai. Its gates are in Concourse D, a short airport-train ride away, and it has its own Red Line Metro station.
Terminal 2 On the opposite side of the airport from Terminals 1 and 3, with the F gates. It serves flydubai and a group of mostly regional and charter airlines, and it has no Metro station.
Terminal 3 The Emirates terminal. The B and C gates are within walking distance and the A gates a short train ride; some flydubai flights leave from here too, and the Red Line stops at this terminal as well.

Leaving from Dubai International? The terminal depends on the airline, and sometimes the flight, so check your ticket and tell us which it is. Dubai Airports recommends reaching the airport at least three hours before departure, and your pickup is timed backwards from your airline’s check-in cut-off, with traffic and the terminal drop-off built in.

Where you are going

Where in Dubai you are going

The city runs south-west from the airport along the coast, so the same booking can be a short hop or a long motorway run. Give us the building or street, not only the district.

Downtown, Business Bay and DIFC

The towers along Sheikh Zayed Road, roughly 15 km from DXB, with DIFC and Business Bay either side of Downtown. The Red Line Metro runs here from Terminals 1 and 3, which suits a light traveller arriving while the Metro is running.

Deira and the Creek

One of the nearest parts of the city. Deira begins a few kilometres from the terminals, at the northern end of Dubai Creek, with the gold and spice souks near the water and Bur Dubai on the far bank, where the abras cross.

The Palm, Dubai Marina and JBR

The far end of the city from DXB, about 35 km down Sheikh Zayed Road. The Marina guide covers the drive to all three and how an address on the Palm differs.

Jebel Ali and Dubai South

Past the Marina the E11 runs on through Jebel Ali, 40 km or more from DXB, and Dubai South is home to Al Maktoum International (DWC). If your address is out here, check the code on your ticket: DWC is much nearer, and DXB is across the city.

Sharjah

The neighbouring emirate’s centre is about as far from DXB as Downtown Dubai is, in the opposite direction, and there are no border checks between the two. Sharjah also has its own airport, SHJ, the home base of Air Arabia; if your flight lands there, the Sharjah guide covers it.

Abu Dhabi

The capital is roughly 120 to 155 km down the E11, depending on where in Abu Dhabi you are going. Going straight there from a Dubai arrival is quoted as one journey, and the route guide has the detail.

DXB

Dubai International Airport (DXB)

Dubai International stands in Al Garhoud, on the Deira side of the creek, about 4.7 km east of the city centre. It is the base of both Emirates and flydubai, and flydubai flies from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, so check the airport code and terminal on your ticket and send both with your request.

DWC

Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC)

Al Maktoum International (DWC) is Dubai’s second airport, in Jebel Ali at the heart of Dubai South, about 37 km south-west of the city and a long drive from DXB. Far fewer passenger airlines use it than DXB, and the list changes, so go by the airport code on your ticket. A pickup there is quoted in the same way as one at DXB, and changes follow the standard policy of up to 48 hours before your flight; a few airports and services differ.

Questions

Dubai airport transfer questions

Can I request a pickup at Dubai Airport?

Yes, as long as it is booked ahead: send the request with your flight and destination using the form on this page or WhatsApp, and a full quote follows, usually within two hours. Last-minute requests and high-demand dates can take a little longer, and the team keeps you informed. Nothing is booked in person at the terminal, and the booking is confirmed once paid, so if you have already landed with nothing arranged, the taxi rank signposted from arrivals is the quick option.

How much is an airport transfer in Dubai?

There is no price list: every journey is quoted on its own. The figure depends on the distance from DXB or DWC to your address, the class you choose and the vehicle your party and bags need, any add-ons, and any late-night, public holiday or short-notice charges, all of which are in the quote before you pay. Salik tolls, where your route passes a gate, are either included in the quote or shown in it as an additional charge, so nothing is added after you book. Nothing is charged until you accept it, and waiting beyond the included time may carry a charge.

Should I take a taxi or book a transfer from Dubai airport?

For one or two people with light bags in the daytime, a taxi from the rank is quick and metered, and we would not talk you out of it. Booking ahead makes more sense for a late-night landing, children who need a seat, five to seven people with luggage, a run straight on to Abu Dhabi, a separate-ticket connection that changes terminal or airport, or when you want a full quote agreed before you fly.

How far is Dubai airport from Downtown Dubai?

About 15 km by road, around 15 minutes with clear roads and longer at peak times. DIFC is a little closer to the airport and Business Bay a little further on.

How long will my chauffeur wait if passport control at DXB is slow?

Waiting runs for 30 minutes from your flight’s actual arrival time, and passport control and the baggage belt count towards it. Waiting beyond that can carry an additional charge, as the Terms set out, and if you have not reached the meeting point within the waiting time and cannot be contacted, the booking is treated as a no-show. Keep your phone on once you land and message the booking desk if the queue is long.

Can I have a child seat for the ride from DXB?

Yes, if you ask for it when you book: tick Child seat on the form and give the children’s ages, and the seat is fitted before you arrive. It cannot be requested after the chauffeur arrives.

Can I change or cancel a Dubai airport booking?

Yes, up to 48 hours before your flight under the standard policy, with any costs already incurred deducted from the refund; a few airports and services differ. Inside 48 hours, or for a no-show, the full charge applies.

Waiting time, changes, cancellations and refunds are set out in full in our Terms & Conditions.
