At a glance

What you get with a Mumbai airport transfer

Mumbai now has two airports. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (BOM) sits inside the city, with Terminal 1 at Santacruz and Terminal 2 at Sahar, and Navi Mumbai International (NMI) opened in December 2025 at Ulwe, across the harbour and about 35 km away by road. In late August 2026 the BOM operator was reported to have asked airlines to move some international flights to NMI from 1 October 2026, and some domestic ones from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 later that month; by late September 2026 airlines had not committed to the Navi Mumbai move, so check the airport code and terminal on your ticket. Send us your flight and where you are going, and a full quote reaches you before you pay, usually within two hours, with a named chauffeur and your flight tracked.

  • Your chauffeur waits 30 minutes from your flight’s actual arrival time.
  • A full quote before you pay, usually within two hours, reflecting distance, vehicle class, add-ons and any late-night, public holiday or short-notice charges.
  • Pay online by secure payment link or bank transfer, and your booking is confirmed once paid. Sea Link and Atal Setu tolls, where your route uses them, are either included in the quote or shown in it as an extra. Waiting beyond the included time may carry a charge.
  • Changes and cancellations up to 48 hours before your flight under the standard policy, less any costs already incurred; a few airports and services differ.
  • Any class, Economy, Business or First Class, can come as a sedan, SUV or van.
  • Two airports serve the city, BOM in the western suburbs and NMI at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, about 35 km apart by road, so the three-letter code on your ticket matters as much as the terminal.

Connections

Changing terminals or airports in Mumbai

A Mumbai connection can be a short hop between BOM’s two terminals or a cross-harbour drive to Navi Mumbai. What it involves depends mostly on whether both flights are on one ticket. On a single ticket the airline and the airport usually handle the transfer, though bags that are not tagged through still have to be collected and re-checked; on separate tickets you collect your bags, leave the building and check in again, which is where a pre-booked car can help.

Connections at Mumbai (BOM) and Navi Mumbai (NMI): what each involves, without fares or promised times
Your connectionHow farWhat you have to doThe airport’s own optionWhen a car helps
BOM T2 and T1, one ticketOne airfield, two separate terminal buildings.Follow the transfer signs and your airline’s instructions, and ask the airline whether your checked bags are tagged through; if they are not, you collect and re-check them.A complimentary inter-terminal shuttle for eligible passengers.Rarely. Ask your airline first.
BOM T2 and T1, separate ticketsThe same short road link between Sahar and Santacruz.Collect your bags (if you flew in from abroad, immigration comes before the belts and customs after them), go out through arrivals and check in again at the other terminal. The same complimentary shuttle, for eligible passengers (the airport does not say who qualifies, so ask at the terminal), from Level 1 at T2 (the ground transportation level, P4) and from T1’s arrival exit, towards Departure Gate 2. The Aqua Line also links the terminals, two stops apart. With several cases, small children or a late-night arrival, when you would rather go kerb to kerb in one car.
BOM and NMI, separate ticketsAbout 35 km by road, usually by the Sion–Panvel Highway and the creek bridge at Vashi.Everything in the row above, plus a cross-harbour drive and a fresh check-in at the other airport. No rail link between the two airports yet (a metro line between them is planned but not built); BOM lists AC buses to Navi Mumbai, and both airports have taxi and app-based cab services at arrivals.Usually the practical choice. Book a terminal-to-terminal transfer and give the desk your onward departure.

No drive time is given for the BOM to NMI road because it varies widely with the hour, the day and the weather. Shuttle details are as the airport published them in September 2026.

Price

What your quote depends on

Every journey is quoted on its own rather than sold from a price list, so the figure you receive is for your booking. These are the things that move it. Nothing is charged until you accept the quote. Tolls, where they apply, are either included in it or shown in it as an additional charge, and heavy traffic does not change the quoted price.

Which airport, and which terminal BOM’s terminals are separate buildings on different sides of the airfield, and NMI is another airport across the harbour. Plans reported in August 2026 would move some international flights from BOM to NMI and some Terminal 1 flights to Terminal 2 during October 2026, though airlines had not committed to the Navi Mumbai move by late September 2026, so give us the airport and terminal your airline confirms, and tell us if either changes (changes are accepted up to 48 hours before your flight under the standard policy; a few airports and services differ).
Which side of the harbour you are going to From BOM the western suburbs are close and South Mumbai is the longer run. From NMI it is the other way round: Belapur, Kharghar and Panvel are near, and South Mumbai is across the Atal Setu. Give us the full address so the quote reflects the real distance.
Bridges and tolls A route south from BOM often uses the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, and the direct line from NMI into South Mumbai crosses the Atal Setu; both are toll roads. If your route uses either, the toll is either included in the quote or shown in it as an additional charge, not added after you book.
Late nights, festivals and short notice Late-night pickups, public holidays and short-notice bookings can each carry a charge, shown in the quote. On Anant Chaturdashi, the last day of the Ganesh festival and usually in September, police close and divert roads for the immersion processions near Girgaon, Dadar and Juhu beaches, with restrictions in Navi Mumbai as well.

When you land

Arriving at BOM or Navi Mumbai

Between the aircraft door and the car, the order is the same at both airports: immigration for international arrivals, the baggage belts, then customs. What differs is the building you walk out of and the road your chauffeur takes from there.

  1. 01

    Before you fly

Check the airport code on your ticket, BOM or NMI, and the terminal, and send us both with your flight number. Foreign nationals file India’s e-Arrival Card online, up to 72 hours before arrival, through the Bureau of Immigration or Indian Visa websites or the Su-Swagatam app; Indian citizens do not need one.

  2. 02

    Immigration

International arrivals clear immigration at BOM Terminal 2 or in Navi Mumbai’s terminal. Both airports ask you to have your passport, visa and arrival card in hand before you reach the desks. Domestic passengers skip immigration at every terminal.

  3. 03

    Bags and customs

Screens show the belt for your flight. Customs then splits into a green channel for nothing to declare and a red channel for dutiable goods, and Indian Customs’ ATITHI app lets you declare goods and currency digitally before you reach it.

  4. 04

    Meeting your chauffeur

Both airports’ arrival guides say pre-arranged transport is reached through the multi-level car park. Your chauffeur is named before pickup, and the booking desk tells you where to meet. The 30-minute wait counts from the time your flight actually arrives.

  5. 05

    On the way

From BOM Terminal 2, the six-lane Sahar Elevated Access Road leads to the Western Express Highway; heading south, the tolled Bandra–Worli Sea Link joins the Coastal Road to Marine Lines. From NMI, Amra Marg runs along the airport’s western edge towards Belapur and Vashi, and the Atal Setu is the direct way into South Mumbai. Road time on both sides swings with the hour and, from June to September, with the monsoon.

Two airports, three terminals and the ways out

BOM Terminal 2, Sahar Every international flight at BOM, plus many domestic ones. Opened to international traffic in February 2014 and linked to the Western Express Highway by its own elevated road. In August 2026 some of its international flights were reported to be moving to Navi Mumbai from 1 October 2026, but by late September 2026 airlines had not committed to the move.
BOM Terminal 1, Santacruz Domestic flights only, mostly by low-cost airlines. In August 2026 about a third of its flights were reported to be moving to Terminal 2 from late October 2026, ahead of redevelopment of part of the building planned from January 2027.
NMI Terminal 1, Ulwe Navi Mumbai’s only passenger terminal for now, with domestic flights since December 2025 and international ones since July 2026. Immigration, baggage reclaim and customs come in the same order as at BOM.
Public transport at each airport At BOM, each terminal has an Aqua Line station, suburban trains stop at Vile Parle (East) for T1 and Andheri (East) for T2, and metered auto-rickshaws serve only the suburbs, from Borivali to Bandra and up to Sion, not South Mumbai. At NMI, city buses run to nearby railway stations, and app-booked buses go to Andheri, Bandra, Dadar, Thane and Colaba.

In late August 2026 the BOM operator’s plan, as shared with airlines and reported in the press, was to move around 30 per cent of BOM’s international flights to Navi Mumbai from 1 October 2026 and about a third of Terminal 1’s flights to Terminal 2 from late October. By late September 2026, reports said airlines had not committed to the Navi Mumbai move, while the operator said the phased Terminal 1 works would still begin in January 2027. Plans like these shift, and one flight can move while another stays, so check your ticket and your airline’s latest message and tell us the airport and terminal it shows.

Where you are going

Where in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai you are going

Which airport you use changes which parts of the region are close. The distances are approximate road distances; time on the road depends on traffic.

South Mumbai

Nariman Point, Colaba and Fort, at the southern tip of the peninsula. From BOM it is about 22 to 24 km, along the Western Express Highway and then either through the city or over the Sea Link and the Coastal Road. From NMI it is about 38 km, most directly over the Atal Setu and along the Eastern Freeway from Sewri.

Bandra, BKC, Andheri and Powai

Bandra Kurla Complex is about 10 km from BOM’s Terminal 2, and Andheri, Juhu and Powai are closer still, which makes BOM the natural airport for the suburbs around it. From NMI, Bandra Kurla Complex is about 31 km, across the Vashi creek bridge.

Vashi, Belapur and Kharghar

Navi Mumbai’s planned townships lie just north of the new airport: CBD Belapur about 8 km away, Kharghar about 11 km and Vashi about 15 km. From BOM, Vashi is about 23 km and Kharghar about 30 km, over the creek.

Panvel

About 8 km east of NMI, Panvel is a major junction for long-distance trains. If you are staying there, or travelling on by rail, a flight into Navi Mumbai saves a long cross-harbour drive from BOM.

Thane

North-east of the city, Thane is about 19 km from BOM’s Terminal 2 by the Eastern Express Highway and about 31 km from NMI by the Thane–Belapur Road. BOM is the nearer of the two; from NMI the drive is longer and depends on traffic on the Thane–Belapur Road.

BOM

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM)

Mumbai’s long-established airport is inside the city, spread across Santacruz and Sahar in Vile Parle East, so Andheri, Juhu and Bandra Kurla Complex are close and South Mumbai is the long run, roughly 22 to 24 km by road. It handled more than 55 million passengers in 2024–25, above its stated capacity of 50 million. Each terminal has its own station on the underground Aqua Line, which since October 2025 has run south through Bandra Kurla Complex, Dadar and Worli to Cuffe Parade.

Terminals Two passenger terminals on one airfield, usually 15 to 20 minutes apart by road: Terminal 1 at Santacruz, for domestic flights only, and Terminal 2 at Sahar, for every international flight and many domestic ones. In August 2026 about a third of Terminal 1’s flights were reported to be moving to Terminal 2 from late October 2026, so go by the terminal your airline confirms closest to the day.

NMI

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI)

The region’s second airport stands at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, on the mainland side of the harbour near Panvel, about 35 km by road from BOM. It has a single runway and a terminal sized for 20 million passengers a year in its first phase. From South Mumbai the direct approach is the Atal Setu, the tolled sea bridge that crosses Thane Creek from Sewri and opened in January 2024. No rail line reaches the terminal yet: the airport lists city buses to the railway stations at Belapur, Nerul, Kharkopar, Targhar, Khandeshwar and Panvel, and prepaid taxis and app-based cabs are available at arrivals.

Terminals One passenger terminal so far, Terminal 1, open to domestic flights since 25 December 2025 and to international flights since 15 July 2026. Further terminals are planned in later phases, so at NMI the thing to check on your ticket is the airport itself, not the terminal.

Questions

Mumbai airport transfer questions

Which Mumbai airport am I flying into, BOM or Navi Mumbai?

The three-letter code on your ticket tells you: BOM is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International, inside the city, and NMI is Navi Mumbai International at Ulwe, about 35 km away by road. Navi Mumbai opened to commercial flights on 25 December 2025 and to international flights on 15 July 2026. In late August 2026 the BOM operator was reported to have asked airlines to move around 30 per cent of BOM’s international flights there from 1 October 2026, although by late September 2026 airlines had not committed to the move. A flight booked months ago may have been moved since, so check your airline’s latest itinerary before you ask for a quote.

How do I change terminals at Mumbai airport on separate tickets?

Start with what the airport provides: a complimentary inter-terminal shuttle runs between T1 and T2 for eligible passengers, and the Aqua Line has a station at each terminal. On separate tickets you also collect your bags and check in again at the other terminal, and if you came from abroad you clear immigration before the belts and customs after them. The airport’s transit guide recommends allowing at least 3 to 4 hours for an international connection and 2 to 3 hours for a domestic one, especially if you change terminals. A car makes sense when the luggage, the children or the hour make the shuttle hard work: book a terminal-to-terminal transfer and send us both flight numbers.

Can you take me from Mumbai airport to Navi Mumbai airport for a connection?

Yes, as a terminal-to-terminal transfer, the service for self-transfer connections between terminals or nearby airports. You collect your bags at the first airport, and your chauffeur takes you and your luggage the roughly 35 km to the second for a fresh check-in. Give the desk both flight numbers and, above all, your onward departure, so the connection window is protected; your arriving flight is tracked and the pickup follows it. Nobody can promise a drive time on this road, so leave a generous margin, and if the gap between flights is tight, talk to your airline about the itinerary first.

Is a taxi available at Navi Mumbai airport?

Yes. The airport lists prepaid taxi counters, private taxi desks in the arrival area and app-based cabs, plus app-booked auto-rickshaws from a marked pick-up zone for short trips around Navi Mumbai. For a short hop to Belapur or Panvel with light bags, those are sensible choices. A pre-booked car suits a late arrival, a family with luggage, a run across the Atal Setu into South Mumbai, or anyone who wants the price settled before the flight.

How long will my chauffeur wait at the airport?

Thirty minutes from your flight’s actual arrival time, which we track, at BOM and at NMI alike. International passengers clear immigration, reclaim bags and pass customs before they come out, so if you expect a long queue, say so when you book. Extra waiting past the 30 minutes may be charged. If you have not reached the meeting point by the end of the wait and cannot be contacted, the booking is treated as a no-show.

What if my flight is delayed, or moved to the other airport?

A delay does not use up the wait: the flight is tracked, so the 30 minutes start when it actually arrives rather than at the scheduled time. A move to another terminal or to the other airport is different, because your chauffeur has to be at the right building, so pass on the new details as soon as your airline sends them; changes are accepted up to 48 hours before your flight under the standard policy, and a few airports and services differ. The booking desk works around the clock, by WhatsApp, phone or email.

Does the monsoon affect Mumbai airport transfers?

It can. The monsoon usually runs from June to September, and heavy rain can waterlog parts of the city and slow roads and trains for hours. For a departure in those months, ask for an earlier pickup than you would in the dry season, so a slow road costs you time rather than a missed flight.

Can I change or cancel my Mumbai booking?

Yes, up to 48 hours before your flight under the standard policy, with any costs already incurred deducted; a few airports and services differ, and within 48 hours full charges apply. If your airline moves you between T1 and T2, or between BOM and Navi Mumbai, tell us as soon as you know.
